Plexiglass or real glass: What should I choose?!

At Big Freddy we understand how difficult it is to choose the right material for your wall decoration. Especially from behind your laptop this is difficult to figure out, but we are happy to help you make the right choice.

What do I choose now?

If you are faced with the choice between plexiglass and glass, we would always go for the most beautiful: real glass! Glass has a luxurious look , the edges are polished and photos on glass remain beautiful for years. It is not that plexiglass discolours quickly, but real glass ensures that your photo remains of top quality for much longer.

An additional advantage is that a glass wall decoration can be placed anywhere. Think of a splashback in the kitchen or as a beautiful wall decoration in the bathroom. This is less suitable with plexiglass, because plexiglass is difficult to clean without leaving scratches. In addition, plexiglass can "work" with temperature differences. A long panorama of 200x50cm, for example, will always warp a little. You can prevent this by choosing an aluminum profile as a hanging system. The profile then ensures that your plexiglass wall decoration remains straight.

The differences between plexiglass and real glass

When printing the same image on 100x150cm plexiglass and real glass, you will see the following differences: If you look in the grazing light, glass is tight and with plexiglass you will see a slight wave in the material. With plexiglass, this can be compensated for by choosing a fine-art plexiglass. With Fine-art, the plate is sandwiched with a dibond panel to keep the image tight. Another difference is that the edges of glass are slightly rounded and polished. This gives a luxurious look. Plexiglass is neatly finished, but glass has that little bit extra.

Different properties

The colours on glass are also deeper than on plexiglass. This is because we print on diamond glass. It has a diamond-like appearance. Glass is 2.5 times heavier than plexiglass. So keep in mind that glass needs a strong wall to hang it on.

Glass is also a more sustainable material than plexiglass. All the glass that we process at Big Freddy is safety glass . Glass remains fragile, of course, which is why we have our glass panels hardened to meet the highest safety standards. All the glass is CE approved. However, we do not have the seal inserted so as not to ruin the image. All the glass is packed in art packaging and is transported from 100x70cm by a special courier, so that it arrives at your home intact. We have already pre-assembled the hanging system for all glass panels.

In our shop you can choose between a blind aluminium suspension system and a floating aluminium profile.

These are the differences between the materials plexiglass and real glass. Plexiglass is fine, but we really like real glass better.
